A day at the park, a graduation, and some primer.

In between work, and homework, and housework, we try to find time to play. Last weekend we took the kids to Jacobson Park south of Lexington. Beautiful park! Not so parent-friendly playground. Although the kids both had a blast, the massive conglomeration of wooden tunnels sized just right for toddler get-a-ways made me a nervous wreck. Not to mention once Anna was in the thick of it I couldn't see her. And the place was crawling with kids. And adults. And the parking lot was close by. Call me paranoid, over protective, what have you, it seemed like a recipe for an abduction to me. Regardless, we did have fun.

Although an equation comes to mind....when one two year old spends five minutes in a sand box, how can the said toddler carry home half her body weight of sand in her hair, and retain the sand to body ratio despite numerous baths and scalp scrubbings? I need a rocket scientist...and maybe a fire hose.

Thursday night, after a late staff meeting and a quick supper of Anna's choosing - McDonald's. we headed back to the school for Kindergarten Graduation. My baby girl is now a graduate! Yes, please pass the tissues. When asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, she responded, "A teacher." Awwwwww!!!

As for the house, it's still coming along nicely!
Today, while waiting for some delivery bees to drop off insulation for us to install (which, by the way, never came) Earl and I had fun testing out some paint samples. It's never too early to plan ahead!
Looking towards the front door...
The great room.....with our extra window!
Our soon-to-be kitchen...
This week cabinets and flooring are on the agenda, with us scheduled to paint next weekend. If any of you out there have a pressing desire to spread some color (errr...kind of) on walls, pick up your roller and come on by!

.....and we have drywall!

and siding!

The house building in coming along well! We've been checking out the progress daily, as well as taking pictures, but there hasn't been much excitement. Just HVAC, plumbing, electric, etc. However, now that that is out of the way, and we passed all our inspections, it's time to get to some real progress again.

The siding around the sides and back was finished this week. Also, notice the window on the side of the house.....funny story...that window is not in our plans. I saw it on one form as an optional extra, but we never considered it (thinking it would look out onto the neighbor's porch). It wasn't even offered to us at the Dec Center. Later, after framing when the windows were installed, there was an extra window hanging around. It disappeared shortly thereafter and I never considered where it went. Obviously, I have been busy (and preoccupied) because I never noticed it went into the wall! I just realized it yesterday. Looking back on pictures, I saw it was put in between May 3rd and 5th. Go figure! It's great, though! I can look out (over the neighbor's porch) and be able to keep track of the kids if they're playing in the cul-de-sac.

A worker bee on stilts!
Anna's in the house....er....the kitchen...

The 6 and the 2

The newest six year old on the block (residing in our home, of course) is quite the grown up girl. She is reading and writing and doing some 'rithmetic...all thanks to her fantastic teacher! She is putting herself to bed...more or less...and proving herself to be more responsible every day.
Oh, and did I mention she loves to have her picture taken?

Now, the two year old, on the other hand, is a moving target!
I consider myself lucky if I can get her to stay still long enough to snap a quick picture! She is a total two year old. In fact, I'm pretty certain her picture will be beside the "toddler" entry in the next Webster's edition. She is head strong and fiery, quick to tantrum and slow to see things my way. She chatters away in her own "Libbinese" and every once in a while I will catch a word or sentence. The favorite of the moment is "Hi, Daddy! C'mon!"

Libby loves "birdies" and "ahpaines" and seems to have eagle eyes when it comes to spotting them. (Or anything she's not allowed to have, for that matter.)
Oh, and her newest thing is to scream in the car. Yeah....pleasant, huh?

It's a really good thing she's cute!

I love my girls!!!

April 17th...

April 17th is a very special day around here.

Why, do you ask?

Well....it just so happens to be someone's birthday.
That someone is Anna!

This year (her 6th birthday, for those who are counting) we celebrated at the Mad Potter in Lexington.

The party goers, no matter the age,
had a really great time!

They listened intently to their instructions,
picked their pottery pieces,
chose some paint colors,
and then got to work on their masterpieces!
Even Libby got in on the fun! (she didn't realize her "paint" was water...)

What birthday would be complete without a cake?

And, of course, the special birthday wish!
The happy cake-eaters.
Yum!

It's commmmiiinnnnng....

What a beautiful day! Libby enjoyed the sunshine today, blowing some bubbles (spilling some bubbles, actually), tormenting the cat, and trying unsuccessfully to catch the neighborhood birds. What a great change from the 7+ inches of rain over the weekend!

The worker bees were busy putting our new, bright white siding on the side of the house!

It's only a glimpse of what it will look like when it is complete, but it's exciting!

I can't wait until we have a big wooden deck outside this door!

It's coming along!
